Recently, the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards honored singer Rihanna, by naming her 2014’s ultimate Fashion Icon. Designer Adam Selman, who has had a long working relationship with Rihanna for years now, custom made the dress she wore to attend the event; a mesh, fitted, floor length gown, covered head to toe in 216,000 Swarovski crystals and a fur shawl. She literally looked as if she had been dipped in diamonds.
On the one hand, this can be considered a very admirable and bold fashion statement. Stylistically, it reminds me of something Josephine Baker would’ve chosen to wear for a glamorous evening out to a Paris Cabaret in the 1920s or 1930s. On the other hand, lets call a spade a spade—it’s completely see through and Ri Ri’s nip nips and bum bum are completely on display, like glistening disco balls sitting on her chest and backside.
