While we don’t toss the word icon around lightly, Sophia Loren has earned it. Even now at 79, she creates a buzz where ever she goes, most recently on the set of her new short film The Human Voice, directed by her son Eduardo Ponti. From the breakout Italian-language film The Gold of Naples (1954), to her five-film deal with Paramount Pictures, to Two Women (1960), for which she won the Best Actress Academy Award, Loren’s full lips, almond eyes and hourglass figure have attracted the attention of men and women alike. And her sultry, feminine style—scooped tops, nipped-in waists and kohl-lined boudoir eyes—has been an inspiration to designers, photographers, models and fashion-lovers for over 50 years.
