You’ve got the turkey all set to go — so what do you do for sides? Most of us know the drill: sweet potatoes (or do you call them yams?), mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberries, and, for some of us, it’s not Thanksgiving without green bean casserole! But if you want a bit of “zip” this year, here are some great ideas for varying those sides from Better Homes and Gardens (bhg.com). Try candied orange sweet potatoes (the same great taste, less sugary, and with a tang of citrus) — or sweet potato fritters with a dipping sauce. Try stuffing made with challah, fennel, and dried fruit, butternut squash, or caramelized onions and Capocollo rye bread. Yes, these flavors are all over the map…and that’s only the beginning.
